Quite honestly, my husband and I had some reservations when we discovered how close to the Central Station we were, having had bad experiences in the past with hotels in other cities, but this turned out more to be a matter of enormous convenience once we had arrived and got our bearings. The Hotel Santa Maria Novella couldn’t have been in a more ideal spot. A matter of seconds from the incredible Cathedral, near the station, yet still smack bang in the historic centre. Our room overlooked the beautiful Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which had everything we could have wanted without being overcrowded or too “touristy”. We never had to go too far to find an excellent restaurant, and then enjoyed a stroll back through the piazza for a nightcap, or, as on one occasion, a late night ice cream by the fountain. J. We booked ourselves into the glorious Bellavista Suite in the Hotel Santa Maria Novella and it was worth every cent! We hadn’t realized how compact and accessible Florence was, and boy how we benefited from that aspect of the city when we first walked out onto the terrace which was to form part of our home for the next three days. I can’t begin to describe the wonderful feeling of returning to such elegance after a hard days sightseeing. (Believe me, it’s more tiring than you may imagine!) The panoramic views of the city, which greeted us at breakfast, actually became more beautiful as the light began to fade and dusk set in. Roll on next year’s anniversary. D. The staff were courteous, helpful and accommodating allowing me to relax after my meeting. I was close to the station which allowed me a much needed lie-in the next morning, yet also able to cram in a whirlwind sight-seeing tour due to the sheer proximity of the Hotel to all the major points of interest.
